My Secret Family Bread Recipe

“bread.jpg” could not be found.

Okay, it's not that secret. But it is one that my Dad came up with after much tinkering with recipes for breadmakers.

This recipe works with most breadmakers, and makes a 2lb loaf (the 1.5lb recipe follows). It works with any mix of whole wheat and white flour, though it's best with slightly more whole wheat than white.

Ingredients

  • 1 7/8 cups water
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2.5 tsp yeast
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp honey (or 6 tbsp sugar)

Process

  1. Throw all the ingredients in your breadmaker (make sure the yeast is last and not touching any liquid if you're doing it overnight
  2. Set your breadmaker to do a standard loaf
  3. Press start

I love breadmakers.

Here's the measurements for a 1.5lb loaf:

  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 3 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp honey (or 3 tbsp sugar)
