Recommended Books

Trying to limit myself to keeping the same number of fiction and non-fiction items. It's hard.

Fiction
Canticle for Leibowitz
  • Post apoc set in a monastery
  • Part one starts in a "new dark age" then jumps 600 forward, then jumps another 600
Eifelheim
  • Alt. history set in the 1300s or something like that.
  • Alien encounter
  • Discusses if Christian concept of salvation is for ET too
Lager Queen of Minnesota
  • Two concurrent storylines a generation apart
  • About a breakout brewer and her estranged craft beer niece
The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress
Princess Bride
  • If you think the film is decent or better, the book is fantastic

Not recommendations from me but here's a list of post-apocalyptic but pre-dystopian pieces, mostly books.

Non-fiction
The Boy Who Could Change the World: The Writings of Aaron Swartz
  • A collection of essays written before his suicide.
Debt: The First 5,000 Years
  • Way more exciting than it sounds.
  • Key point, I guess, is how fiat currency isn’t for holding wealth, but for holding debt
