A Neighbourhood Currency
My wife and I were watching Ghosts (2021). Solid short comedy, worth checking out. Basically there's ghosts that can't interact with the physical (but they can touch each other) and living people can't see them, except for one of the main characters. Because they can't interact with the physical, in one episode it's explained that they use backrubs as a currency and some ghosts have amassed a wealth of backrub credits. Anyway.
Neighbourhood commerce idea: grass mowing credits.
Nearly everyone in a neighbourhood has the same amount of required effort to do a half-decent grass mowing. So use those as IOUs. Start with “I’ll mow your grass while you’re gone next week if you mow mine the week after” and build to “I’ll mow your grass once if you shovel my driveway twice” and then “Bob owes me two grass mowings. I’ll transfer those to you if you walk my dog four times.”
